I intend to keep the style consistent throughout the magazine by using the same colour scheme on most pages; green and blue on white background. These colours are very complimentary as well as being the colours of the college and so are relevant to the target audience of the students. As well as this, the colours appeal to both genders so I do not lose any potential readers.
Though I will mainly keep this scheme, I will try to add more colour on some of the inner pages. This will make the magazine more interesting as the same scheme could easily bore readers after some time.
I will use basic sans serif font on the front cover as well as the body text of the magazine. The main masthead on my cover will be large and bold, the font being sans serif and possibly some of the following: Bauhaus 93 - Copper Black - Impact - Rockwell.
These fonts are very eye catching due to their boldness and unique appearance and would appeal to the intended audience who would be interested in the magazine.
My body text will be a more softer font, Georgia - Ariel - Veranda - Cambria, are all very attractive fonts due to their readable appearance as well as their differentiation of style. The text needs to be different than plain Times New Roman but must still be able to be read by the reader.
There is a possibility of me using coverlines and puff/plugs on my cover to advertise the information within the magazine. This builds interest within the audience and makes them feel they need to read on. In these cases, more diverse, serif fonts like; Advert MF, could be used to make them more noticable. They would need to stand out slightly as most of the readers' attention would be drawn to the masthead, headline or cover image of a college student who is directly addressing the reader.
I intend to publish/release the magazine on the first day every month starting with the first issue on September. This is the first day back for second years as well as the first day all together for others and so it is important to make a welcome issue for everyone to get the information out their immediately. I have not yet come up with a title for my magazine however it will be a relaxed and different masthead, possibly a pun, to keep it relevant to the target audience as well as it's intent.
